Knock-down (detachable) chair feet

This is what we set out to build: a five-star chair foot that comes apart and goes back together by hand, holds with a taper instead of screws, and ships flat. It is the part our patents cover.

How the foot locks

A traditional knock-down foot relies on screws into the tube ends. Screws back out under repeated load, and that is where the wobble and the warranty calls come from. Ours uses a nested sleeve and a tapered foot tube, the way a mortise-and-tenon joint works — push the arm into the hub and the taper wedges tight. The harder the chair is loaded, the firmer the joint sits.

Because there are no screws, there is no screw kit, no Allen key in the carton, and nothing to strip. A worker presses the five arms home in roughly twenty seconds. It is also why the part packs flat: the arms and hub nest, which is the bulk of the ~30% packing-volume saving we see versus a pre-welded foot.

Common questions

Is it really screwless?
Yes. The arms lock into the hub by a taper fit, the same idea as a Morse taper. There are no screws to loosen, so the joint does not develop the wobble that screwed feet do.
How long does assembly take?
About twenty seconds by hand for a five-arm foot — no tools, no torque setting. It is designed so a packing-line worker, or even the end customer, can do it.
What load can it take?
The feet were tested four times at the Anji County quality-supervision centre during development. We rate each foot to the user weight you specify and can arrange BIFMA-level load and durability testing for your exact spec rather than quoting a blanket figure here.
